Chris Haddad Is Now Partner
Suyama Peterson Deguchi announces the promotion of architect Chris Haddad to Partner. Haddad joins partners George Suyama, FAIA, Ric Peterson, FAIA, and Jay Deguchi, AIA, in firm leadership. Haddad became a firm employee in 1997 and has played an instrumental role in the design and execution of several of Suyama Peterson Deguchi’s esteemed residential and commercial projects. Those include the Broadmoor Residence, upon which the American Institute of Architects has bestowed two Honor Awards, as well as homes located in Medina, Wash., Washington state’s Kitsap Peninsula, Sonoma, Calif., and this year’s Montana Ranch House, among others. Most recently, Haddad’s design in collaboration with George Suyama of a 4,000 square foot home in Palo Alto, Calif., will be completed in early 2015.Haddad is also an esteemed sculptor whose work—most often in metal—has exhibited in many galleries and is featured in private collections nationally. His pieces are currently available at Suyama Peterson Deguchi’s furniture and accessories retail shop and showroom, 3 x 10, which is co-located with the firm’s architectural studio. He later completed a Masters of Architecture degree at Syracuse University. His art and architecture inform one another.
In-Between: January 14 - February 22 at the George Suyama Gallery
Suyama Peterson Deguchi is proud to announce both the opening of the new George Suyama Gallery at Gould Pavilion, and the Pavilion’s first exhibition, In-Between, designed by Suyama Peterson Deguchi. The exhibit will kick-off with a conversation with George Suyama FAIA and Jay Deguchi AIA from 6pm-7pm on Wednesday, January 14, at Gould Court within Gould Hall. Free to the public. In-Between will then run from January 14 through February 22 at Gould Pavilion, a recent renovation and expansion of the College of Built Environment’s Gould Hall at the University of Washington.

Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy to Tour SPD designed homes
Join the Conservancy on Saturday, April 5, for an all-day event that will include tours of the Wright-designed Brandes and Tracy Houses as well as several private homes by contemporary architect George Suyama. Prior to the architectural tour Grant Hildebrand, professor emeritus at the University of Washington in Seattle and author of The Wright Space, will expand on themes from his recent book, Suyama: A Complex Serenity, as he discusses the philosophical connections between Wright and Suyama.

George Suyama receives Hall of Fame award
We are happy to announce that George Suyama is the recipient of the Residential Architect 2013 Hall of Fame Award. Residential Architect is a magazine of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). The other 2013 Leadership Award recipients are Craig Steely, Craig Steely Architecture - Top Firm, and Katherine Hogan, Assoc AIA, and Vincent Petrarca, Tonic Design | Tonic Construction - Rising Star.
George and his wife, Kim, are currently attending the 2013 Reinvention Conference, "Designing for Resilience" in San Francisco, CA. The conference is from October 8-11, 2013 and the Leadership Awards Luncheon will take place on Thursday, October 10. Coast Modern Screening at SIFF
SIFF will be screening Coast Modern on Sunday, September 15 at 3:00pm. The film takes us from LA to Vancouver, across three generations, to showcase the legacy of by the pioneers of West Coast Modernist Architecture. Coast Modern features many of the homes that have come to define the movement, including Seattle's Fauntleroy Residence, the home of architect George Suyama. George will attend and participate in a Q&A session after the film.
