REGRADE
Wade Kavanaugh

15 September – 12 December 2008

Maine sculptor Wade Kavanaugh’s installation work is inspired by architectural idiosyncrasies of selected spaces. Here the artist will investigate the physical relocation of Denny Hill, the leveling of landmass in the early 1900s that reshaped the geography and economy of Seattle. An undulating topography of handmade sheetrock bricks will stretch from wall-to-wall of the Suyama Space, correlating with the raw earth sluiced from Denny Hill into Elliott Bay. A recent MacDowell Colony resident, Kavanaugh has recently received grants from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation and the New York Foundation for the Arts.

Regrade is made possible through funding from the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation, 4 Culture Arts Sustained Support and Suyama Space Friends and was curated by Beth Sellars in partnership with Space.City. Artist support provided by The Pollock-Krasner Foundation and the Coleman Burke Gallery.
